What happened:

At 13:00 (local time) (11:00 UTC), a vehicle with terrorists has intruded the checkpoint of power units 5 and 6. Following a skirmish with station security personnel, this group was neutralized. A second terrorist group was able to access the Main Control Room (MCR) of unit 6. At 13.15 pm, the plant shift supervisor has initiated the actuation of the emergency plan and has proclaimed an on-site emergency, based on the violation of plant physical protection barriers. The burning terrorist vehicle meanwhile has been extinguished by the station fire brigade. During a visual examination of the vehicle a self-made explosive device was found. At 13.45 a general emergency has been announced due to the terrorist attack on the Unit-6 MCR, where the reactor operator was forced by the terrorists to open the Pressurizer relief valve, which led to safety systems actuation. At 14:25 the unit 6 MCR operator was forced to shutdown all 3 spray pumps, all 3 safety low pressure (LP) and all 3 safety high pressure (HP) pumps. A temperature rise at the exit of the primary circuit was observed, and the primary circuit level has dropped lower than the axis centre of the hot leg.

Fuel clad integrity currently degraded; core cooling currently degraded; onsite and offsite power available; radiological release in progress. Site evacuation has started.
